Best Fence Installation in Brentwood

Aluminum privacy fence, gates and estate fencing for Brentwood homes, from Brentwood Park to the canyons north of Sunset. Supplied from our showroom and installed through our licensed installation partners.

Fencing for Brentwood Homes

Brentwood is a Westside neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, stretching from the flat, tree-lined streets south of Sunset to the canyons north of it, including Mandeville Canyon, the longest dead-end street in the city. Brentwood Park, Crestwood Hills and the canyon streets each have their own character.

South of Sunset, Brentwood owners usually want privacy on established lots, an elegant front fence and a gate that matches the house. North of Sunset, hillside lots and wildfire risk change the plan: the city’s hillside height limits apply, and the space right around the home matters more than ever.

The area north of Sunset was under an evacuation order during the January 2025 Palisades Fire, and the 2019 Getty Fire destroyed homes on North Tigertail Road. Every style we mention is on display in our Panorama City showroom.

Brentwood Fence Height Rules

This is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, so fences follow the city zoning code and the Department of Building and Safety:

  • Front yard: up to 3.5 feet in most residential (R) zones, or 6 feet on lots zoned A or RA. Taller front fences need City Planning approval.
  • Side and rear yards: up to 8 feet on lots at least 40 feet wide and outside a hillside area. On hillside-area lots, or lots narrower than 40 feet, the limit is 6 feet.
  • Permits: masonry or concrete walls over 3.5 feet need a building permit.

South of Sunset, many Brentwood lots are flat and wide enough for 8-foot side and rear fences. North of Sunset, hillside-area lots are limited to 6 feet. Check your parcel on the city ZIMAS map.

Fire Safety and Fencing in Brentwood

The LAFD lists Brentwood among communities partly inside the city’s Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, covering much of the area north of Sunset.

California’s new Zone 0 rules cover the first 5 feet around a home in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones. The state Board of Forestry adopted them in August 2026, and they take effect once the state finishes its final review. As adopted, they say combustible fences and gates may not be attached to a home, and that no new combustible fences or gates are allowed within 5 feet of a home once the rules take effect.

Lumina aluminum fence systems are noncombustible, based on the manufacturer’s fire test documentation, which makes them a strong choice for the run closest to the house. Ask us for a copy of the documents. Fire rules are still being finalized, so confirm current requirements with your fire department or building department before you build. Our Zone 0 fence guide has more detail.

What Shapes a Fence in Brentwood

Brentwood Park

Brentwood Park’s estate lots and wide, landscaped streets suit an open, elegant front fence and a matching driveway gate, with privacy fencing along the sides.

Canyon homes

In Mandeville Canyon and the other canyons, lots are steep and narrow. Posts are set to the grade and panels stepped down the slope.

Crestwood Hills

Crestwood Hills is known for its mid-century modern homes. Horizontal aluminum slats suit that architecture without competing with it.

Privacy on established lots

Mature trees and close neighbors make side-yard privacy a common request. A fully closed aluminum fence gives complete screening with a clean line.

Low upkeep

Powder-coated aluminum does not rot, rust or need repainting, which matters on long runs around larger Brentwood lots.
