A gate is the part of a fence you touch every day, so it is worth choosing carefully. Every Lumina aluminum gate is built from the same profiles as its fence series, so the slat lines run straight through from panel to gate. Here is how to choose the type, size and style for each opening on your property.
| Gate type | Size | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Pedestrian gate | 4 x 6 ft | Side yards, garden entries, front walkways and pool area openings |
| Double swing gate | 8 x 6 ft | Wider walkways, garden and equipment access, and driveways where two swinging leaves fit |
| Sliding gate | 16 x 6 ft | Driveways, especially where there is no room for a gate to swing |
For a driveway, the choice usually comes down to space. A sliding gate glides along the fence line, so it needs clear, fairly level space beside the opening for the gate to travel into, but nothing in front of or behind it. A double swing gate opens in two leaves, so it needs room for both leaves to swing without hitting a sloped drive, a parked car or the sidewalk. If your driveway slopes up from the street or is short, sliding is often the better fit. If you have a wide, flat apron and no space along the fence line, a double swing gate may suit you better. Our team can look at photos of your driveway and suggest the right option.
A 4 x 6 ft pedestrian gate covers most side yards, garden entries and walkways. It is also the gate people choose for a pool fence opening. Plan which way it should swing before you order. Most people want a side gate to swing into the yard, away from the path, and clear of steps, hose bibs and AC units.
Each gate type comes in all five Lumina series, so a driveway gate, a side gate and the fence panels between them can share one look:

Matte black is the most requested finish for an aluminum gate. It reads as clean and modern against stucco, stone and planting, and it hides everyday dust well. White is available on select styles. Every gate is finished in a powder coat over T6063 aluminum, so it will not rust, rot or need repainting.
Gates hang on matching aluminum posts and columns, available as in-ground posts or surface-mount posts for concrete and pavers. Tell us whether each gate is going into soil or onto a slab so we can supply the right posts. If you plan to automate a sliding or swing gate later, mention it when you request a quote so our team can help you plan for it. Installation is available through our licensed installation partner.
