Best Fence Installation in Pasadena
Aluminum fence and gates for Pasadena homes, from historic landmark districts to Eaton Fire rebuilds in Upper Hastings Ranch. Supplied from our showroom and installed through our licensed installation partners.
Fencing for Pasadena Homes
Pasadena is its own city at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains, known for its craftsman bungalows, historic districts and tree-lined streets. In January 2025 the Eaton Fire destroyed homes in the city’s northeast, mainly in Upper Hastings Ranch and nearby neighborhoods.
Pasadena fence projects usually fall into one of two groups. In landmark districts like Bungalow Heaven, a front fence or driveway gate needs historic review, and the goal is a fence that respects the house. In the fire-affected foothill neighborhoods, owners are rebuilding and planning around the state’s new rules for the space closest to the home.
We supply aluminum fence, gates and posts from our showroom in Panorama City, and we install through our licensed installation partners.
Nearby, we also serve San Marino and La Cañada Flintridge.
How Fence Rules Work in Pasadena
Pasadena sets its own fence and wall rules in its zoning and building codes. In general, front-yard fences are kept lower than side and rear fences, taller block walls need a building permit, and barbed and razor wire are not allowed on homes.
Landmark districts add another step. In Bungalow Heaven, for example, a driveway gate or front side-yard fence needs a Certificate of Appropriateness plus a building permit, and a fence over 6 feet needs a building permit. Other landmark districts, such as Garfield Heights, have their own review.
Ask Pasadena Planning for the exact heights and review steps for your lot before ordering.

Rebuilding After the Eaton Fire
The northernmost part of Upper Hastings Ranch is inside both the Eaton Fire area and a Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone.
California’s new Zone 0 rules cover the first 5 feet around a home in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones. The state Board of Forestry adopted them in August 2026, and they take effect once the state finishes its final review. As adopted, they say:
- Combustible fences and gates may not be attached to a home.
- Where an existing fence attaches to the house, or comes within a foot of it, the first 5 feet must be noncombustible.
- Once the rules take effect, no new combustible fences or gates are allowed within 5 feet of a home.
Lumina aluminum fence systems are noncombustible, based on the manufacturer’s fire test documentation, which makes them a strong choice for the run closest to the house. Ask us for a copy of the documents. Fire rules are still being finalized, so confirm current requirements with your fire department or building department before you build. Our Zone 0 fence guide has more detail.

What Shapes a Fence in Pasadena
Landmark districts
Bungalow Heaven, Garfield Heights and other landmark districts review front fences and gates. A simple black aluminum picket fence is often an easy fit next to craftsman and period homes; bring photos of your house to the showroom.
Upper Hastings Ranch rebuilds
Rebuilding owners in the foothills are planning fences with the new fire rules in mind. Metal fencing near the house and a privacy fence along neighbors is a common layout.
Mature trees and roots
Pasadena is known for its trees. Posts can be placed to avoid large roots; plan the run around them.
Front yards that stay open
Most Pasadena owners keep the front open and welcoming with a low, open fence, and put the taller privacy fence at the sides and back.
Pools and courtyards
Aluminum pool fencing and decorative screens suit Pasadena’s many backyard pools and patios.

Yes. Lumina aluminum fence systems are noncombustible, based on the manufacturer’s fire test documentation. Ask us for a copy. Always confirm current fire rules for your lot with your fire or building department.
Do I need approval for a fence in a landmark district?
Often, yes. In Bungalow Heaven, a driveway gate or front side-yard fence needs a Certificate of Appropriateness and a building permit. Check with the city for your district.
