Best Fence Installation in Chatsworth

Aluminum fence, equestrian-friendly fencing and driveway gates for Chatsworth homes and ranch properties. Supplied from our Panorama City showroom and installed through our licensed installation partners.

Fencing for Chatsworth Homes and Ranch Properties

Chatsworth sits in the northwest corner of the San Fernando Valley, a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles backed by the rocky Santa Susana Mountains, with landmarks like Stoney Point and the Santa Susana Pass. It is known for its equestrian, semi-rural character, with many properties that keep horses.

That gives Chatsworth fence projects their own flavor. Larger lots, horse properties and trails call for open, durable fencing that defines space without closing in the land. Closer to the hills, slopes and wildfire risk shape what goes near the house. On the flatter suburban streets, owners want privacy and a gate that suits the home.

We are about twenty minutes from Chatsworth. Every style below is on display in our showroom, and we install through our licensed installation partners.

Chatsworth Fence Height Rules

This is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles, so fences follow the city zoning code and the Department of Building and Safety:

  • Front yard: up to 3.5 feet in most residential (R) zones, or 6 feet on lots zoned A or RA. Taller front fences need City Planning approval.
  • Side and rear yards: up to 8 feet on lots at least 40 feet wide and outside a hillside area. On hillside-area lots, or lots narrower than 40 feet, the limit is 6 feet.
  • Permits: masonry or concrete walls over 3.5 feet need a building permit.

Many Chatsworth properties are larger lots, and some are zoned A or RA, which allows a front fence up to 6 feet instead of 3.5 feet. Foothill lots in a hillside area are limited to 6 feet on the side and rear. Check your parcel’s zone on the city ZIMAS map before choosing heights.

Fire Safety and Fencing in Chatsworth

The LAFD lists Chatsworth among the communities partly inside the city’s Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, along the Santa Susana Mountains.

California’s new Zone 0 rules cover the first 5 feet around a home in Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones. The state Board of Forestry adopted them in August 2026, and they take effect once the state finishes its final review. As adopted, they say combustible fences and gates may not be attached to a home, and that no new combustible fences or gates are allowed within 5 feet of a home once the rules take effect.

Lumina aluminum fence systems are noncombustible, based on the manufacturer’s fire test documentation, which makes them a strong choice for the run closest to the house. Ask us for a copy of the documents. Fire rules are still being finalized, so confirm current requirements with your fire department or building department before you build. Our Zone 0 fence guide has more detail.

What Shapes a Fence in Chatsworth

Horse properties

Open, rail-style or picket aluminum fencing can define paddocks, arenas and property lines without blocking views across the land, and it never needs repainting. Tell us how the space is used and we will suggest panel heights and gate hardware.

Larger lots and long runs

Big lots mean long fence lines. Powder-coated aluminum keeps maintenance close to zero, which matters when the run is hundreds of feet.

Foothills and rocky terrain

Lots toward the Santa Susana Mountains slope and can be rocky. Posts are set to the grade and panels stepped so the lines stay level.

Gated driveways

Long driveways and ranch entries often call for a wide gate. Aluminum sliding and double swing gates match the fence.

Privacy on suburban streets

On Chatsworth’s flatter streets, a closed aluminum privacy fence along the side and rear gives screening without the upkeep of wood.
