Aluminum Wall Toppers for Block, Stucco and Concrete Walls

Add height and privacy to the wall you already have. Lumina aluminum wall toppers mount on top of an existing wall, in matte black or white, with no demolition and no new footings.

What Is an Aluminum Wall Topper?

A wall topper is an aluminum extension that mounts on top of an existing wall. It turns a low block, brick, stucco or concrete wall into a taller, more private boundary without tearing the wall down.

Many homes in Los Angeles already have a perimeter wall, but it is often too low to give real privacy from a neighbor’s second floor or the street. Rebuilding that wall taller means demolition, new footings, masonry work and, depending on the height, engineering and permits. A wall topper keeps the wall you have and adds height on top of it, anchored with heavy-duty base screws.

It also changes how the wall looks. A plain block wall with a clean aluminum topper reads as a finished, modern boundary instead of a utility wall. The same finishes are used across our aluminum fence collection, so a topped wall can match a new fence or gate elsewhere on the property.

Why add one

Why Homeowners Add a Wall Topper

More privacy

Raise a low wall so the yard is screened from the street, a sidewalk or a neighbor’s windows, without building a new wall.

No demolition

The topper anchors to the top of the existing wall. There is no tear-out, no new footings and far less disruption to the yard.

A modern finish

Matte black or white aluminum gives an old block or stucco wall a clean, contemporary line that matches modern homes.

Weather protection

An optional sloped capping with a drip edge sheds rain off the top of the wall, which helps protect masonry from water staining and seepage.

Low maintenance

Powder-coated aluminum does not rust or rot and does not need painting, staining or sealing.

Room for lighting

Accent grooves are available for outdoor LED strip lighting, so the top of the wall can glow softly at night.

Wall Topper Styles and Options

Wall toppers can be built in several looks, depending on how much privacy, light and airflow you want:

  • Horizontal slats. The most popular choice for modern homes. Slats line up with a horizontal aluminum fence or gate elsewhere on the property, and the spacing sets how much the wall screens.
  • Decorative laser-cut patterns. Patterned panels add texture and let filtered light through, a good fit for courtyards and garden walls. See our decorative metal panels.
  • Frosted plexiglass inserts. For a softer screen that blocks views but keeps the space bright.
  • Sloped V-shape capping. A capping profile with a built-in drip edge that channels rainwater away from the wall.

The Lumina wall topper comes in a 12 x 2 in x 8 ft section in matte black or white. Matte black is the most requested finish: it recedes against planting and sharpens the edge of the wall. White suits lighter homes and stucco.

Which Walls Can Take a Topper?

Lumina wall toppers anchor to concrete, block, brick, stucco, stone and wood walls using heavy-duty base screws. The wall underneath does the structural work, so it needs to be sound: no major cracks, no leaning sections and no loose blocks along the top.

Before you order, look at the top of the wall. A flat, even cap makes for the cleanest result. If the wall steps down a slope, the topper sections can follow the steps. Send us a few photos of the wall, including the top and both ends, and we will tell you how it can be finished.

Check the total height

Fence and wall height limits usually apply to the wall and the topper together, not to the topper alone. Rules depend on your city, your zone and where the wall sits on the lot. In the City of Los Angeles, for example, front-yard fences and walls are generally limited to about 3.5 feet, while side and rear limits are higher on many lots. Check with your city and your HOA before you add height. Our areas we serve pages explain fence rules in many Los Angeles neighborhoods.

Wall Topper or a New Wall?

A new, taller masonry wall is the right answer when the existing wall is failing or too weak to carry more height. In most other cases, a topper does the job for far less disruption. You keep the wall, the landscaping along it stays in place, and the work is done in a fraction of the time a rebuild takes.

If you are also replacing a fence on another side of the property, a topper lets the whole boundary share one look. A topped front wall, a horizontal aluminum privacy fence along the side and a matching driveway gate can all use the same matte black finish.
