Best Fence Installation in Woodland Hills

Aluminum fence, privacy fence and driveway gates for Woodland Hills homes, from the flat streets near Warner Center to the hillside lots that border Topanga. Supplied from our showroom and installed through our licensed installation partners.

Fencing for Woodland Hills Homes

Woodland Hills is the westernmost neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles. North of Ventura Boulevard the Valley floor is flat and open around Warner Center; south of it, larger homes climb into the Santa Monica Mountains toward Topanga State Park.

That split shapes what people ask us for. On the flat side it is usually privacy, a tidy front fence and a better driveway gate. On the hillside it is a fence that steps cleanly down a slope, keeps the view, and suits a larger property. Some lots here are zoned for more rural use, which also changes what is allowed in the front yard.

Woodland Hills sits right next to Calabasas, and the city line matters: cross it and the fence rules change completely. If you are not sure which side your address falls on, send it to us and we will help you check.

Woodland Hills Fence Height Rules

As part of the City of Los Angeles, Woodland Hills follows the city zoning code and the Department of Building and Safety.

  • Front yard: up to 3.5 feet in most residential (R) zones, or 6 feet on lots zoned A or RA. Taller front fences need City Planning approval.
  • Side and rear yards: up to 8 feet on lots at least 40 feet wide and outside a hillside area. On hillside-area lots, or lots narrower than 40 feet, the limit is 6 feet.
  • Permits: masonry or concrete walls over 3.5 feet need a building permit from LADBS.

In Woodland Hills two lines in that list matter more than usual. Hillside lots south of Ventura Boulevard are held to 6 feet on the side and rear. And on any lot zoned RA, the front-yard limit rises from 3.5 to 6 feet. Look up your parcel’s zone on the city’s ZIMAS map before choosing a height.

What Shapes a Fence in Woodland Hills

RA-zoned lots

Where a lot is zoned RA, a taller front fence is allowed, which opens up options like a full-height gated entry. Check your parcel first; the zone, not the size of the lot, decides it.

Hillside south of Ventura Boulevard

Hillside properties need posts set to the grade and panels stepped down the slope. A common layout is an open fence on the view side and a closed privacy fence along the neighbors.

Fire hazard areas

Parts of the Woodland Hills hills are in the city’s Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone, next to large open space. Our Zone 0 fence guide covers the new rules for the area right around the home.

Larger properties and long runs

Longer fence lines make maintenance the deciding cost. Powder-coated aluminum does not rot, rust or need repainting, which adds up fast over hundreds of feet.

Heat and sun on the west side of the Valley

Woodland Hills regularly records some of the hottest summer days in Los Angeles. Strong sun dries out and fades wood fences, and heat speeds up peeling paint on steel. A powder-coated aluminum finish holds its color and does not warp, which is why it suits exposed west Valley lots.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you install fences in Woodland Hills?

Yes, we do. We install through our licensed installation partners. We supply everything from our showroom in Panorama City.

How tall can a fence be in Woodland Hills?

Woodland Hills follows City of Los Angeles rules: generally 3.5 feet in the front yard and 8 feet on the side and rear of wide flat lots, but 6 feet on hillside-area lots. On RA-zoned lots, front fences can be up to 6 feet.

How do I know if my lot is zoned RA?

Look up your address on the city’s ZIMAS map, or send it to us and we will help you check before you choose a height.

Is my home in Woodland Hills or Calabasas for fence rules?

It depends on the city line, not the mailing address. Calabasas has its own, different fence rules. If in doubt, check your parcel with the city.

What is the best fence for a long property line?

Powder-coated aluminum. It does not rot, rust or need repainting, so the long-term cost of a long run stays low.

Can I see the fences before I decide?

Yes. Visit our showroom at 14600 Arminta St, Panorama City, Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm, or Sunday 10 am to 4 pm by appointment.
