Best Fence Installation in Studio City

Modern aluminum fence, gates and privacy screens for Studio City homes, from the flat streets near Ventura Boulevard to the canyon lots toward Laurel Canyon and Mulholland. Supplied from our showroom and installed through our licensed installation partners.

Fencing for Studio City Homes

Studio City packs a lot of variety into a small area: compact lots on flat streets north of Ventura Boulevard, and steep canyon properties climbing south toward Mulholland Drive and Laurel Canyon. Many homes are contemporary or recently remodeled, and owners want a fence that matches the architecture.

The requests we hear most from Studio City are a sleek horizontal fence that looks like part of a modern home, privacy on tight lots where neighbors are close, and gates that work on short or sloped driveways. Every style below is on display in our Panorama City showroom, about twenty minutes away, so you can see the slat size and finish in person first.

Because the fence comes from our own showroom stock, the panel you look at in person is the panel that goes on your property, with posts, caps and gate hardware matched to it. For a neighborhood where so many homes have been redesigned with care, that consistency is what keeps a new fence from looking like an afterthought.

Studio City Fence Height Rules

Studio City is part of the City of Los Angeles. Fence heights are set by the city zoning code and enforced by the Department of Building and Safety.

  • Front yard: up to 3.5 feet in most residential (R) zones, or 6 feet on lots zoned A or RA. Taller front fences need City Planning approval.
  • Side and rear yards: up to 8 feet on lots at least 40 feet wide and outside a hillside area. On hillside-area lots, or lots narrower than 40 feet, the limit is 6 feet.
  • Permits: masonry or concrete walls over 3.5 feet need a building permit from LADBS.

Two details catch Studio City owners most often. Canyon lots south of Ventura are usually in a hillside area, which caps side and rear fences at 6 feet. And many lots are narrower than 40 feet, which also brings the limit down to 6 feet even on flat ground.

What Shapes a Fence in Studio City

Narrow lots and close neighbors

On a narrow lot, the fence is often only a few feet from a neighbor’s window. A fully closed aluminum privacy fence gives you a clean wall of slats with no gaps, while a louvered style blocks the view but lets air move through a tight side yard.

Canyon and hillside properties

Steep lots need careful post placement and panels stepped down the slope so the lines stay level. On the canyon side, many owners choose an open style facing the view and a closed style along the neighbors.

Mulholland Scenic Parkway

Homes near Mulholland Drive can fall under the Mulholland Scenic Parkway Specific Plan, which limits fence and wall materials visible from the parkway and can require review. Check with the city if you are close to Mulholland.

Fire hazard areas

The Studio City hills are partly in the city’s Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone. If you are planning a fence near the house, read our Zone 0 fence guide and check current requirements.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you install fences in Studio City?

Yes, we do. We install through our licensed installation partners. We supply the fence, gates and hardware from our showroom in Panorama City.

How tall can a fence be in Studio City?

Studio City follows City of Los Angeles rules. Most front-yard fences are limited to 3.5 feet. Side and rear fences can reach 8 feet on flat lots at least 40 feet wide, but only 6 feet on hillside-area lots or lots narrower than 40 feet.

What fence style suits a modern Studio City home?

Horizontal aluminum slats, like Ridgeline or the wider Summit, are the most popular choice for contemporary homes. They read as part of the architecture and never need painting.

Can I get privacy and still keep airflow?

Yes. Ventura louvered panels are angled like shutters, so you cannot see through them straight on, but air and light still pass between the blades.

Does the Mulholland plan apply to my fence?

Only if your property is near Mulholland Drive and the fence is visible from it. If so, the plan can limit materials and require review. Ask the city about your parcel.

Can I see the fences before I decide?

Yes. Visit our showroom at 14600 Arminta St, Panorama City, Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm, or Sunday 10 am to 4 pm by appointment.
