A pool is the one part of the yard where a fence has to do three jobs at once: mark a clear boundary, keep the view open to the water, and look good every day without constant upkeep. An aluminum pool fence from Lumina does all three. Every panel is made from T6063 architectural aluminum with a high-performance powder coat, so it will not rust, rot or need repainting, and it is backed by a 25-year limited warranty against rust and discoloration.
Aluminum pool fencing styles
Every Lumina aluminum fence series can be used as an aluminum swimming pool fence. The right one depends on what you want to see, and what you want to hide.

Compared with other metal fencing for pools, aluminum is lighter than steel or wrought iron and never needs painting. See every style on our aluminum fence page, or browse 12 modern aluminum fence styles for ideas.
Black or white aluminum pool fence
A black aluminum fence is the most popular choice around a pool. Matte black recedes into planting and keeps attention on the water and the view, which is why a black metal fence around a pool looks at home in almost any Los Angeles backyard. White is available on select styles for a brighter, coastal look.

Aluminum pool gates
Every series has a matching 4 x 6 ft pedestrian gate, so the aluminum pool gate reads as part of the fence rather than an add-on. The same styles come in 16 x 6 ft sliding gates for the driveway on the same property.
Aluminum pool fence panels on a pool deck
Most pools are surrounded by concrete, pavers or stone, and nobody wants to cut up a finished deck. Lumina’s aluminum fence posts come in two types, and many aluminum fences around a pool use both.
Surface-mount posts
A factory-welded foot plate anchors directly to an existing concrete or paver deck.
In-ground posts
For planted borders and open ground, where the fence meets the garden.
Pool barrier rules
California and most cities have specific requirements for fences around residential pools, typically covering fence height, the size of any gaps, and how gates close and latch. Requirements vary by city and change over time, so confirm them with your local building department before you order.
Bring your requirements to our showroom and our team will walk you through panel heights, slat spacing and gate options so you can choose with the rules in hand.
Finish the pool area with turf
Because Lumina supplies fence, pergolas and turf from one showroom, the whole pool area can be planned together. LuxTurf artificial turf is a popular choice for pool surrounds and lounge lawns, and you can walk on every grade on our showroom floor.
How to plan an aluminum pool fence
A good pool fence starts with a simple plan. These are the four decisions our team walks through with homeowners, designers and contractors in the showroom.
1. Measure the fence line
Walk the line where the fence will sit and measure each straight run. Note the corners, any changes in level, and where the fence meets the house, a wall or an existing gate. With the total length in hand, we can work out how many panels, posts and gates the job needs.
2. Decide what you want to see
Hampton and Ridgeline keep the water in view from the house and patio. Summit and Linea turn the pool into a private space. Ventura screens pool pumps and filters while still letting air and light through. Many pool areas combine two styles, an open style facing the house and a private one along the property line.
3. Match the posts to the surface
Use surface-mount posts where the fence sits on concrete, pavers or stone, and in-ground posts where it runs through planted borders or open ground. Mixing both is common, and both are made to match the same panels.
4. Plan the gates
Think about how people move around the pool: from the back door, from the side yard, and to the pool equipment. Every series has a matching 4 x 6 ft pedestrian gate. Check your city’s rules on how pool gates must open, close and latch before you settle on a position.
Bring your measurements and a few photos of the pool area to our Panorama City showroom, and we will help you put the plan together.
Aluminum compared with other pool fence materials
Homeowners usually weigh four materials for a fence around a pool. Here is how they compare in everyday use.
| Material | Upkeep | Look and view |
|---|---|---|
| Powder-coated aluminum | No rust or rot, no painting or staining | Clean modern lines, open or private styles |
| Wrought iron or steel | Needs repainting over time to keep rust away | Classic, heavier look |
| Wood | Regular staining or sealing; can warp and fade in sun and splash | Warm and natural, usually solid |
| Glass panels | Frequent cleaning to stay clear | Fully open view |
For most Los Angeles pools, aluminum gives the best balance of looks, view and low upkeep, which is why we offer it in five styles with matching gates and posts.
Aluminum pool fence questions
Is aluminum a good material for a pool fence?
Yes. Powder-coated aluminum does not rust, rot or warp, and it never needs staining or painting, which makes aluminum fencing for pools well suited to the splash and sun around the water. It is also far lighter and cleaner-looking than wrought iron or masonry.
How tall should a pool fence be?
It depends on your city’s pool barrier rules. Lumina aluminum pool fence panels come in 6 ft and 8 ft heights. Check your local requirements first, then choose the panel height and style.
Can an aluminum fence for a pool be installed on concrete?
Yes. Surface-mount posts with a welded foot plate bolt directly to an existing concrete or paver deck, so there is no need to break up the surface.
What is the best color for a pool fence?
Matte black is the most popular. It fades into the landscape and keeps the focus on the pool.
Can I see the pool fence styles in person?
Yes. Our showroom at 14600 Arminta St in Panorama City has our aluminum fence series on display, along with matching gates, posts, pergolas and LuxTurf. Visit Monday to Friday 8 to 5, or Sunday 10 to 4 by appointment.
Does Lumina install pool fences?
Installation is available through our licensed installation partner. Request a quote with your measurements and our team will take it from there.
How can I hide pool equipment?
Ventura louvered panels block the view of pumps and filters while letting air and light through. For smaller areas, our outdoor metal privacy screens are another option.
How do I clean an aluminum pool fence?
Rinse it with a hose and wipe it down with mild soap and water now and then. There is no sanding, staining or repainting.
