Louvered Aluminum Pergolas in Woodland Hills

Motorized louvered pergolas with zip screens, heat and light, made for hot west Valley afternoons. Set up as finished rooms in our Panorama City showroom and installed through our licensed installation partners.

Shade for the West Side of the Valley

Woodland Hills regularly records some of the hottest summer days in Los Angeles. A patio that faces west can be unusable from mid-afternoon until sunset without real shade.

A louvered aluminum pergola gives you control over that sun. The motorized roof slats angle as the sun moves, or close fully for shade and rain, and a zip screen on the west side cuts the low light that a roof alone cannot stop. Frames are powder-coated aluminum in matte black or white, so strong sun will not dry out, crack or fade them the way it does timber.

Many Woodland Hills lots are generous, including RA-zoned parcels, which leaves room for a freestanding pergola by the pool or out in the yard. Planning a fence too? See our fence installation page for Woodland Hills.

Planning a Pergola in Woodland Hills

Sun and orientation

Note which way the patio faces and where the afternoon sun hits it. That decides which side gets a zip screen and how the louvers are set.

Attached or freestanding

An attached pergola feels like part of the house. A freestanding one can sit beside the pool or in a larger yard, which suits the wider lots common in Woodland Hills.

Permits

Woodland Hills is part of the City of Los Angeles. Many pergolas and patio covers need a permit from the Department of Building and Safety, depending on size, height, attachment and distance from property lines. The city’s attached patio cover bulletin sets out what it reviews. Check with LADBS before you build; we can provide product information for your application.

Power

Motorized louvers, zip screens, lighting and heaters all need power at the pergola. Deciding how you will use the space first sets the add-ons and the power you will need.

Underfoot

Many owners finish the space with LuxTurf patterned turf under the pergola, as in our showroom setups.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you install pergolas in Woodland Hills?

Yes, we do. We install through our licensed installation partners, and we supply the pergola, screens, glass and accessories from our showroom in Panorama City.

Which pergola works best for hot afternoons?

A louvered pergola such as our LU168 or LU220. You can angle the motorized roof slats against the sun as it moves, and add a zip screen on the west side to block low afternoon light.

Do I need a permit for a pergola in Woodland Hills?

Often, yes. Woodland Hills is part of the City of Los Angeles, and many pergolas and patio covers need a permit from the Department of Building and Safety depending on size, height, attachment to the house and distance from property lines. Check with LADBS before you build; we can provide product information for your application.

Can a pergola stand by the pool or in the middle of the yard?

Yes. A pergola can attach to the house or stand on its own posts. Freestanding designs work well beside a pool or out in a larger yard.

Will an aluminum pergola fade in the sun?

The frames are powder-coated aluminum in matte black or white, so there is no wood to dry out, crack or restain. That matters on exposed west Valley lots that take strong sun all summer.

Where can I see the pergolas?

At our showroom, 14600 Arminta St, Panorama City, where pergolas are set up as finished outdoor rooms. Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm, or Sunday 10 am to 4 pm by appointment.
